Rediscovering the Beaten Path: Los Angeles 07.21.08
Excerpt: “Of course, you can’t be all dressed up with nowhere to go.  In Los Angeles, as in any city, networking is key and comes in a variety of flavors. NetParty hosts events at night clubs open to all young professionals, while L7 skews a bit older (but offers me the minimally inebriated conversation I prefer). Hiving allows you to meet new people at unique events, while ticket prices benefit a variety of charity beneficiaries.”

Flat-iron secrets, this weekend
If you, like I, have yet to master the elusive art of flat-ironing, you could benefit from an interactive event at The Doves hair salon in Santa Monica this Sunday, June 8. The new-ish salon, founded by the heads of Wella USA Sonya and Christopher Dove, is hosting  “Style Secrets”, an afternoon of beauty where I’m led to believe many hairstyling secrets will be spilled. Topics will include the latest techniques for flat ironing (including how to produce curls) and the art of wig-wearing. Plus you can ask for a hair consultation, and find out about the best styles for your face shape, hair texture, skin type and the season.
The event takes place Sunday June 8 from 4:00pm - 5.30pm at The Doves Studio 2000 Main St, Santa Monica CA 90405. Tickets cost $25, with proceeds benefiting the The Peacock Foundation. To attend, sign up through “HIVING:: Parties for a Purpose” at www.hiving.net.  Referral code: DOVES

Bee Yourself

Things around the honeycomb hideout have become a bit predictable.

Shake ’em up with Hiving, a new social site that makes plans so you don’t have to.

Founder Sally Horchow, girl about town and coauthor of The Art of Friendship, wants to “party with a purpose.” Hiving members receive e-mail invitations to happenings that are entertaining, educational, and unlikely to be things that you’d arrange yourself, such as seances for skeptics, tea parties for tee making, or field trips to the firing range followed by classic American cuisine. Next up: Make or Break Your New Year’s Resolutions.

It’s free to join, but each event comes with a price tag, a portion of which goes to a charity that’s related to the activity or theme.

When it’s over, you’re sure to leave with something other than the promise of a hangover.
But not without catching a buzz.

Available online at hiving.net. The exclusive referral code for DailyCandy readers is DCHIVING.
